Kristina Foyster
Oil painter drawn to rural and outback Australia.
Artist Statement
I always wanted to paint in oils. But in my teens I couldn’t find anyone to help me and I got busy with life and put it to the side. Then in 2000 I moved to Tin Can Bay and walking through the supermarket I saw a notice for oil painting classes and I signed up straight away with Phylis Rayment.
But working full time, looking after a family and everything else that comes with life, there was not a lot of time to paint as much as I enjoyed it.
Then Covid struck and I had all the time in the world to paint and paint I did. I’m probably the only person who found a way to cope being in lockdown and being on my own. At the end of lockdown my job no longer existed and I was forced to resign. Now I had plenty of time to paint.
Over the years I was a member of AGRA, The Pastel Society of Victoria and the Mentone Art Society. In July 2025 I relocated to Moree where I am now working at establishing myself and immersing myself in the local art scene.
I have attended the Grampians Brushes week-long workshops since the second year of its inception and have attended the week-long Summer Brushes workshop at Horsham a couple of times. I have attended numerous workshops in Melbourne for oils, water colour, acrylic, pastel and drawing in various mediums. I enjoy working with all as my subject dictates the medium and size but oil is my first love.
I go out plein air painting, which I love, at least once a year for a week with a group of artists and we have named ourselves “Intrepid Artists” and at other times as the opportunity presents. We aim for different locations each year.
I enjoy painting a large variety of subjects but my favourite is rural and outback Australia, representing life as it is lived and has been lived in the past along with the flora and fauna, landscapes and seascapes, sheep, cattle, kangaroos, emus and the characters of the bush.
