Sam Russell
Digital illustrator and concept artist inspired by fantasy and folklore.
Artist Statement
As a digital illustrator with a passion for concept art, my work is a fusion of the mythical and the fantastical, brought to life through stylized visuals and imaginative storytelling. My art is deeply inspired by my love of literature—particularly fairy tales, folklore, and fantasy novels. These timeless narratives fuel my creativity, shaping the dreamscapes and characters that inhabit my work.
After moving to Moree from Tamworth in 2019, I began to hone my craft, experimenting with digital mediums and am now studying concept art. For four years, I had the privilege of working at the Bank Art Museum Moree, where I gained valuable insights into art history, storytelling, and the transformative power of visual culture. These experiences have helped refine my artistic voice, allowing me to merge traditional influences with modern techniques.
At the heart of my work is a deep reverence for narrative. Whether it's creating creatures that belong to forgotten myths or imagining places that exist only in the pages of a book, I strive to evoke the sense of wonder that stories like these have inspired in me. Through my art, I aim to capture the essence of fantasy and bring to life the magical worlds that have long captivated readers and dreamers alike.
